Slavic vs Asian Hair Extensions: What's the Difference?
It may seem that hair extensions differ only in price. In fact, the difference between Slavic and Asian hair lies in its very structure, and it determines how the strands will look on the client, how long they will last and how they will behave when coloured. Here are the key differences.
Hair Structure and Thickness
Slavic hair is fine or medium in thickness, soft and flexible. Its structure is close to the hair of European clients, so after the extension it blends naturally with the client's own strands.
Asian hair is noticeably thicker and coarser, usually straight and heavy. To make it closer to the European type, it is often thinned chemically, and this damages the hair.
Natural Colour
Slavic hair comes in a wide palette of natural shades, from dark to light natural blonde. Asian hair is almost always dark: to get light shades, it is bleached. Bleached hair becomes porous and brittle, and its even "artificial" colour fades over time.
Cuticle and Processing
A quality Slavic ponytail keeps its cuticle intact, running in one direction from roots to ends. That is why the hair does not tangle and does not lose its shine after washing.
In mass production, Asian hair is often treated with acid to remove the cuticle and prevent tangling in mixed batches. It is then coated with silicone for shine. At first such strands look smooth, but the silicone washes off after a few washes, and the hair becomes dry and dull.
Single Donor or Mixed Batch
In mass production, Asian hair is usually collected from strands of different people and evened out with chemicals. A premium Slavic ponytail is the hair of a single donor, cut in one tail, with uniform thickness, porosity and shade along the entire length.
Colouring and Care
Unprocessed Slavic hair behaves predictably during lightening, toning and colour correction, so the stylist gets exactly the result they expected. Processed Asian hair absorbs colour unevenly and does not tolerate repeated colouring well.
Lifespan and Price
Asian hair is cheaper, but with regular wear it does not last long: once the silicone is gone, it often has to be replaced. Slavic hair without chemical processing lasts much longer with gentle care and can be reused. That is why, calculated per wearing time, the price difference often turns out smaller than it seems at the time of purchase.
